This impeccably stylish apartment interior is the design genius of Milanese design office PLA/STUDIO. The studio - founded in 2006 by Marco Tullio Emanuele, Luongo Carmine and Raffaella Coppari - combines a youthful approach with a wealth of design expertise to tackle a wide range of projects and increasingly complex design solutions.

They believe that crafting a project is like telling a story. Working across various scales, they weave together the various narratives and users to transform space and program. This home is one of their smaller design feats, but what it lacks in scale it certainly doesn't lack in finesse. Let's take a look…

The stairs

From the first moment of entering this home, the design standard is set. The door swings open to reveal a stair that is as much art-piece as it is functional.

The solid construction is interrupted at the landing and a negative void separates the two flights of stairs.

The hallway

The remainder of the hallway is simple and white, letting the stair steel the show. Ample storage is incorporated into this transitional space.

And look at that little cutie in the centre! He definitely rules the roost here…

Open plan living

The social heart of the home, containing the living and dining spaces, is open plan and free-flowing.  The aesthetic is simple: white walls, timber floors, and neutral furnishings.

A television console is built into the wall and the television set is mounted above. Next to it, a window seat offers a small nook to sit and read a book when the television loses its appeal.

The dining area is separated from the kitchen via a large glass sliding door. This is a wonderful way of making the space adaptable.

When required, the residents can close it off from the rest of the home without causing disconnection.

The kitchen

The kitchen is sleek and sophisticated. It's all monochromatic hues until those bright chartreuse chairs punctuate the space!

The central island provides an informal dining area for the family to gather about for a quick bite to eat.

A study with views

On the upper level, a small office sits under the gable roof and offer stunning views out across the cityscape. The long rectangular window almost spans the entire length of the desk.

A bright rug adds a touch of colour and fun to the simple aesthetic.

The bathroom

Last but certainly not least, the bathroom is decked out with gold patterned tiles. There's nothing like a little glitz and glam in an oft-forgotten space of the home.
