Who said small spaces have no potential? From small bedrooms and tiny living rooms to narrow hallways, small spaces allow us to experiment with colours and patterns that we wouldn’t normally consider. How so? Simply because the space is smaller which means we don’t get an overdose of said colour or pattern that we’d get if the room was more spacious.

Does that make sense? In any case, these 10 colours are deemed to be as close to perfection as one can get when searching for the perfect paint colour to help a small room seem more welcoming and expansive…

1. Light Blue (Benjamin Moore’s Dusky Blue)

See this particular tint as a more mature version of a sky-blue pastel. Without overpowering a small space, it lends a cool-but-elegant ambience that can be ideal for anything from a nautical vibe to a formal appearance.

2. Stone Grey (The Spruce’s Stone Quarry)

There are delicious variations of grey and depending on your small room’s location (i.e. the amount of light that filters inside) and layout, one of the stone greys could be perfect for its walls. The Spruce’s Stone Quarry, a lighter version of charcoal with a slightly blue undertone, is a hue that makes quite the style statement while staying modern. Best of all is that it complements lighter furnishings and décor.

3. White

Of course white is on our list! Always a classic choice, white is ideal for modern / minimalist spaces. And if you’re scared the effect might seem too clinical or cold, pair this colour up with brighter furnishings and accessories.

4. Navy (Sherwin-Williams’ Dark Night)

Darker colours reflect less light, meaning it gives a room more depth. The result is that it almost pushes the walls out, thereby making the space seem bigger than it actually is.

And for a small room seeking a moody, rich and bold look, we definitely recommend Dark Night Navy.

5. Beige (Magnolia’s Southern Grown)

Flaunting a bit more depth than ordinary beige, Magnolia Southern Grown lends a dusty look to a room while keeping it feeling homey, cosy and inviting. Best of all is that it complements any design style from modern and contemporary to rustic and Mediterranean!

6. Off-White (Benjamin Moore's Linen White)

This traditional off-white tint has some red undertones that keep it from looking cold and clinical. Thus, it’s perfect for small spaces that need some personality and warmth without going full-on red or orange.

7. Pink (The Spruce’s Rose Power)

With its tints of whites and greys, The Spruce’s Rose Power easily reflects light in small spaces without going too far into the neutral realm (if you want to avoid neutral / earthy colours at all costs). And just imagine this soft (but not girly) pink as a background for your wall art.

8. Black (Benjamin Moore’s Jet Black)

With its rich vibe, this black hue ensures a very dramatic ambience, especially when splashed into a small room’s walls. Might we suggest pairing it with gold trimmings, such as mirror frames and coffee tables, for an even more striking effect?

9. Ruby Red (Valspar’s Cut Ruby)

Not nearly as red as Apple or Rose, Valspar’s Cut Ruby makes a style statement while lending a warm look to any room. We definitely recommend bringing in warm tints or crisp whites (for your furniture pieces and accessories) to make this ruby red sizzle even more.

10. Peach (Benjamin Moore’s Nautilus Shell)

Those who always visualise Peach as a pink colour should take note of this option! A far warmer and cosier option than off-white, Benjamin Moore’s Nautilus Shell will bring a rich glow to any space, however small or big.
