As with any complex device, the installation of a boiler largely determines how well it will serve you. Therefore, it is important to choose an experienced and knowledgeable installation or Vaillant boiler repair specialist who will install or repair the heating room and all the necessary connections to the appropriate standards. To help you avoid unpleasant surprises, we present important criteria for installing the correct boiler.

Custom chimney

The boiler may only be connected to a suitably sized, insulated, lined flue. The cross-sectional area of the building flue must be ¼ larger than the flue gas outlet of the boiler. The masonry chimney must be insulated and lined with a smooth stainless steel shell (corrugated steel must not be used, as it condenses much more condensate and accumulates soot). Care must be taken not to allow flue gases from other heating installations to escape through the flue, unless the flue has been specially designed and constructed for the discharge of flue gases from several heating installations.

The connecting pipe between the boiler flue and the building flue can be installed several meters long, provided that it can be easily cleaned. It must be made of heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant metal and insulated with 50 mm thick thermal insulation wool, which must be covered with metal foil or tin.

Heating room arrangement

When installing a heating room, care must be taken to ensure that it complies with fire safety regulations. There must be no flammable substances or fuel in a specially designed tank near the boiler. All pipes in the heating system must be made of metal to reduce the risk of fire.

The heating room must also be adequately ventilated to supply the oxygen required for the combustion process. Otherwise, the combustion process will not be complete and the fuel will not be fully used. Care must also be taken to ensure that the water supplied to the heating system is prepared in accordance with the heating system standards, otherwise corrosion of the pipes and the boiler body is possible.

The most common mistakes during boiler installation

Although it is always advisable to entrust the installation of the boiler to a professional, it is advisable to ensure that the following errors are not made during the installation process:

No recirculation connection is added

in this case, the boiler recirculation unit is not used, which protects against corrosion and increases the efficiency of boiler heat production.

Three-way valves are not connected

In this case the circuit of the boiler system is not separated and the water in the boiler is not heated to the set temperature, but is used immediately in the heating system. The boiler temperature can drop to the dew point when condensation forms and rust forms.

There is no fireproof surface under the boiler

The temperature of the bottom of the boiler can rise during operation, and burning slag can escape during cleaning. It is important that the boiler is installed on a solid, stable and fireproof base to avoid fire safety risks.

Insufficiently large expansion vessel

As the water temperature changes, so does its volume. The additional volume of water is drained into the expansion vessel, thus preventing a dangerous increase in pressure. If the expansion vessel is too small, there is a risk of the pipes exploding due to water pressure. Care must also be taken to ensure that there is no shut-off valve between the boiler and the expansion vessel.

The horizontal flue does not have a service hatch

It is not possible to clean the flue between the boiler flue and the chimney. Over time, the chimney may become clogged, ash or soot may accumulate in it.

There is no chimney condensate drainage system

Condensation in the chimney indicates a malfunction of the boiler. Without a condensate drainage system, this problem cannot be detected and condensate enters the boiler, causing corrosion.

The minimum crew distances have not been observed

In addition to the overall dimensions of the boiler, provision must also be made for opening crew hatches. Otherwise, cleaning and maintenance of the boiler becomes difficult or even impossible.
