Concrete is often associated with a sense of industrial barrenness. It isn’t usually the first thing a person decides to use as a major part of a design scheme. Because it is mainly used in construction, it feels like a cold, impersonal material, and most people’s first impulse is to cover it up.

Yet, with the increasing trendiness of industrial style at large, these feelings are starting to change. Concrete is going from cold to cool, so to speak, and it’s certainly piqued our interest. As many clever designers and architects have demonstrated of late, concrete can actually take many forms. You can use it just about anywhere in the home, and it is a cheaper alternative to many other materials. It can even be cosy! Here are just a few ways you can make your home look amazing with concrete.

Concrete steps

For anyone out there that isn’t entirely sure about the whole concrete thing, we advise starting small. Using concrete surfaces to accentuate your existing design scheme will help you get used to the look, especially when the compliments start rolling in.

To begin, try using concrete on the staircase. It’ll offer a unique change of texture that will add cohesion between rooms.

… and floors!

Concrete flooring is nothing new, but most wouldn’t consider it for the primary living spaces in their homes – it's usually reserved for garages or basements. Yet, why not bring the practical strengths of concrete into your daily life? Concrete is cheap, durable, and easy to clean. Plus, it looks gorgeous in the sunshine!

Did we mention it looks amazing on the ceiling?

Alright, we may have sold you on the benefits of using concrete on your walls and floors. It’s time to get a bit more open minded. Concrete on the ceiling will certainly create a dramatic ambiance in your home, especially if it is distressed like this one is.

Plus, concrete on the ceiling allows you to experiment with other materials on the floors and walls whilst also adding in its own two cents to the aesthetic.

You can glam it up to create a cool feature

You may remember that we claimed concrete is versatile. Let us elaborate. When concrete is drying it is possible to treat it with different substances that can drastically alter its appearance.
